The inaugural release, Eleni & Edouard Vocoret’s 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Séchet has turned out beautifully. Derived from two plots amounting to 0.7 hectares and planted with massal selection Chardonnay in 1962, it’s southeast-facing and characterized by marl soils rich in fossils. It exhibits aromas of ripe citrus fruit, green apple, beeswax and oyster shell, followed by a medium to full-bodied palate that’s dry and satiny. While it bears some of the hallmarks of the vintage, the wine's mineral signature remains typical of Séchet, concluding with a pure, saline finish. Eleni and Edouard Vocoret are among the brightest young-generation winemakers in Chablis, bringing a fresh breeze to a subregion of Burgundy that has, until recently, lacked dynamism. Originally from Domaine Vocoret & Fils, Edouard Vocoret established his own winery in Chablis in 2012, together with his wife Eleni, after working for two years at his family estate, while Eleni honed her skills at Vincent Dauvissat and Domaine Oudin. Starting with five hectares, they now run an eight-hectare estate, which includes many prime parcels at both premier cru and grand cru levels. With the 2023 vintage, the domaine’s holdings have expanded, and almost overnight, this estate has become one of Chablis’s most important addresses. The Vocorets have selected parcels in the best climats from their family holdings, and the accompanying tasting notes illustrate the entire range, which now consists of 12 different cuvées.(KK)

A pretty pale lemon. There is also a slight lemon rinse to the stony nose, a little more flesh than typical from this vineyard. Really nuanced, a little covering of white velvet over the stones, low acidity but delicious. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted Jun 2025.

Note: from a .71 ha holding. Notes of dried citrus zest, apple, oyster shell and pear are trimmed in discreet petrol nuances. There is a bit more volume and richness to the medium weight flavors that flash more power if less refinement on the stony, citrusy and very dry finale. This should also drink reasonably well early if desired.

The 2023 Chablis Séchet 1er Cru is another new cuvée inherited from the Vocoret family. This comes from deeper coils than the Chatains. It has a very cohesive bouquet, less expressive than the Chatains at the moment, though with impressive delineation. The palate is medium-bodied and less richer than the Chatains, very smooth in texture with crisp acidity and tension on the finish. Fine.(NM)
