Woodside Vineyards began in 1963 when Bob and Polly Mullen bonded their small operation in the Santa Cruz Mountains, building on early 1960s harvests from historic sites like La Questa, first planted in the 1880s. Mullen expanded by restoring old backyard vineyards across Woodside and Portola Valley, eventually farming dozens of small parcels that supplied the winery’s Cabernet Sauvignon and other varietals. The estate became known as one of California’s earliest boutique wineries and the oldest bonded winery in San Mateo County. Production remained rooted in these scattered, often century-old vineyards until the brand was sold to Silver Mountain Vineyards after fifty-five years of family ownership.

Winemaker's Notes: "Deep ruby in color, this exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon opens with fragrant notes of blackberry, bay leaf, coffee and chocolate. The palate is supported by velvety tannins and features flavors that tend more towards red cherries and baking spices. Our Cabernet Sauvignon vines are planted in the gravelly soils of our estate vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. These well-drained soils, combined with limited yields and our moderate climate, produce Cabernet Sauvignon fruit with complex flavors and a special brightness on the palate."

“Lack of rain combined with a warm summer resulted in one of the earliest harvests this estate has seen, starting September 5. Smaller grapes than usual made this a very structured, concentrated wine, with plenty of tannin, savoury and spicy flavours, alongside aromas of bay leaves. The blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, and 4% Malbec - aged for 18 months in a mix of French, American and Hungarian oak. Marks a new level of quality. (EM)” (02/2018)
