From Robert Parker: "White Rose Estate’s proprietor, Greg Sanders, loves whole cluster Pinot Noir and his 2008s were brilliant successes. He informed me during our sit-down that beginning in 2011 all of the wines produced from the estate White Rose Vineyard will be made with 100% whole clusters."

“Noticeably deep in color, the 2008 Pinot Noir White Rose Vineyard Whole Cluster has very fine delineation on the nose with red berry fruit, balsamic, Japanese green tea and plenty of undergrowth scents that become more accentuated with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a fine line of acidity and touches of bacon fat coming through with fine salinity on the finish. Very fine. (NM)” (03/2015)

“Vivid red. Expressive, highly perfumed bouquet of cherry pit, black raspberry, cola and vanilla, with a sexy spice cake quality gaining power with air. Juicy, focused and gently sweet, with impressive depth and clarity to its red fruit flavors. Finishes with very good cling and spicy persistence. (JR)” (07/2011)

“Vivid ruby-red. Sexy, highly perfumed aromas of redcurrant, cherry, floral oils and minerals. At once silky and penetrating, offering vibrant red fruit and bitter blood orange flavors that gain sweetness with air. The mineral note comes back strong on the persistent finish, which is firmed by fine-grained, harmonious tannins. Shows the best traits of the vintage: elegance, precision and firm mineral bite. Jancis Robinson
“Bright ruby-red. Powerful smoke-accented cherry and dark berry aromas are lifted and sharpened by notes of allspice and pungent flowers. Taut, concentrated black raspberry, bitter cherry and rose pastille qualities build nicely in the glass. Lingers with excellent tenacity on the finish, with the red berry and floral notes emphatically repeating. (JR)” (07/2014)

Wine Spectator
“Tangy, with lively acidity to balance the ripe plum and spice flavors. Has density, finishing with refinement and feathery tannins. Best from 2015 through 2020. (HS)” (10/2014)

“The 2012 Pinot Noir Hawk's View Vineyard, which Adam Lee has being buying fruit from since 1995, underwent a natural ferment and aged in barrel for 15 or 16 months (40% new). It has a perfumed violet-scented bouquet with touches of mint and blackcurrant. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well-judged acidity. Powdery in texture with lifted blackberry and licorice notes toward the focused finish. Enjoy this over the next 5 or 6 years. (NM)” (03/2015)

Jeb Dunnuck
“A youthful ruby red hue, the 2022 Pinot Noir Haakon/Lenai Vineyard comes from 27-year-old vines in the main estate vineyard. A youthful bright magenta/ruby color, it offers darker berried fruit notes of wild black raspberries, layered spice, toasted cedar, umami, and licorice, with some red-fruited, high-toned lift shining through. There is real crystalline depth to this wine as well as more purity and clarity, and it has bright, ripe acidity, mouthwatering freshness, and a great finish. Its ripe tannins are very well-framed, and it has a long finish. Much more purity and clarity here. Drink 2024-2044. This is by far the best wine in the Purple Hands lineup.” (08/2024)

Int'l Wine Review
“Another stunning Pinot Noir from winemaker Cody Wright, the 2022 Haakon/Lenai Pinot Noir by Purple Hands spent 10 months in 30% new French oak and showcases a shimmering light to medium neon ruby core with a light silvery rim. This intricate and complex wine is savory with meaty characteristics alongside black cherry, black raspberry, dried cedary herbs, and toasted walnut shells. It’s in a beautiful spot now, but will only improve over the next few years. 792 cases were made. Highly recommended.” (09/2024)

Wine Advocate
“From 26-year-old, dry-farmed vines, the 2022 Pinot Noir Haakon Lenai has pure, complex aromas of rhubarb, blueberry, licorice, tea leaves, potpourri and mossy bark. The medium-bodied palate is powerfully styled with generous layers of red fruit, spice and earth. It’s structured by velvety tannins and vibrant acidity and has a very long, expressive finish.” (12/2024)

Wine Spectator
“Rich and full bodied, this red is jammed with compelling flavors of raspberry and jammy cherry. Takes on orange zest, clove and cinnamon accents before finishing with plump tannins. Drink now through 2032. (TF)” (06/2024)

Decanter
“From the organically farmed estate site on east-facing slopes in the Dundee Hills that was planted in 1998. The Haakon/Lenai Pinot Noir offers attractive floral notes of lush violets, candied red berries and turned soils. The palate is lushly textured, with layers of red and purple berries, a dollop of smoky clove, dried wild anise and dusty blackberries; there are notes of black tea and smoky cinnamon spice and earthen minerality that carry the finish. (CP)” (04/2024)
