Review Date: 10/2023Opulent, this red is maturing, with black cherry, blackberry, plum, leather and mineral flavors that are beginning to transform into woodsy, dried fruit notes. This is still fresh, focused and balanced, nevertheless, with plenty of time ahead. Sangiovese and Merlot.

Spiced and earthy character here with smoked plums and cherries as well as dark licorice and tarry undertones. Polished and creamy with medium body and fine tannins. A little tight but flavorful and attractive. From organically grown grapes.

The 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva is a potent, brooding wine. Black cherry, plum, new leather, licorice, smoke and cured meat all run through this decidedly somber Riserva. A wine of heft and power, the Riserva is best enjoyed at the dinner table with similarly hearty fare. (AG)

Based in Greve in Chianti, Viticcio has been part of the Chianti Classico landscape since the 1960s under the Landini family. The Riserva is the estate’s step up from the annata bottling, built around Sangiovese and given the additional aging required for the Chianti Classico Riserva category.
