1986 Rochioli Russian River Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Rochioli Vineyards is a third-generation family estate on Westside Road in Healdsburg, in the Russian River Valley. The family has farmed this land since Joe Rochioli Sr. became foreman of the Wohler Ranch in 1920 and purchased the property — then called Fenton Acres — in the mid-1950s. The property was renamed Rochioli Vineyards in 1983 when Tom Rochioli took over as winemaker, and today his daughter Rachael serves as General Manager and his son Ryan works as assistant winemaker.

Rochioli Vineyards stands as one of the Russian River Valley’s defining estates, rooted in a farming legacy that began when Joe Rocchioli Sr. arrived in 1911 and later purchased the Fenton Acres property in the 1950s. Early plantings included Sauvignon Blanc in 1959—vines still producing today—and the pivotal shift came in 1968 when Joe Jr. established the first Pinot Noir blocks, soon followed by Chardonnay. By the mid-1980s, Tom Rochioli built the estate winery, releasing the 1985 Pinot Noir to national acclaim. Today, 140 acres are planted—primarily Pinot Noir—managed through block-by-block farming, hand-harvesting, and minimal-intervention winemaking that preserves the site’s distinctive character.
