The 2001 Montepirolo, a newer wine than the Riserva, made from recently planted vines of Cabernet and Merlot, is no less exceptional if a bit more backward in its evolution. Very ample in its expression of blackberry fruit, mint and sage, minerals and cedar, the density of the flavors, the firmness of the texture, the important solidity of the tannins all testify to a very important extraction and concentration that will guarantee 20 years of life but require a bit of bottle time to unwind.
