2004 René Barth "Mambourg" Riesling Grand Cru Alsace

Wine Advocate
Review Date: 02/2008A 2004 Riesling Mambourg suggests lime sorbet in its ripe citrus character and combination of juicy freshness and subtle creaminess. Apricot nectar and peony-like inner mouth florality are reinforced by very subtle sweetness. This displays gorgeous lift, refreshment and refinement in its long finish and should be worth following for at least several years. (DS)

Notes
From the Mambourg Grand Cru above Sigolsheim, a steep, south-facing Alsace site with limestone and marl soils documented since the Middle Ages. René Barth's bottling places Riesling in a warmer grand cru context, making this a useful older-vintage reference for the grape outside the region's more granitic or sandstone sites.
