2006 Prunotto "Mompertone" Monferrato Rosso
VN
Vinous
Review Date: 10/2008The 2006 Monferrato Rosso Mompertone is an unusual blend of 60% Barbera and 40% Syrah. This dense full-bodied offering exudes notable depth in its dark fruit, spices, earthiness and sweet toasted oak. I loved the wine's richness. (AG)

Notes
Mompertone is Prunotto's Monferrato Rosso from the Calliano area, historically based on Barbera with Syrah in the blend rather than the Nebbiolo associated with Barolo and Barbaresco. Founded as a cooperative in Alba in 1904 and later developed under the Antinori family, Prunotto bottles this as a Piedmont red outside the classic Langhe appellations.
