2014 Melanson "Matthew's Block" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Notes
Melanson is a small, estate-focused project on Napa’s Pritchard Hill, founded in 1988 by Greg Melanson. The site sits around 1,200 feet above the fog line, giving it full-day sun and the kind of mountain exposure that has made this ridge one of Napa’s most coveted Cabernet zones. The vineyard covers about 10.5 acres planted to Cabernet Sauvignon (primarily Clones 7 and 337), rooted in rocky Sobrante and clay-loam soils that limit vigor and keep yields low. Production is limited, with fruit occasionally appearing in top single-vineyard bottlings from producers who source from the site. Winemaking follows a classic Napa approach, with Cabernet typically aged in French oak and released in small allocations.
