2017 Patrick Lesec "Les Galets Blonds" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Wine Spectator
Review Date: 09/2019Now that it's in the bottle, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape les Galets Blonds shows lovely notes of garrigue on the nose, backed by sun-warmed stones, ripe cherries, caramel and mocha. About one-fifth is matured in barriques, and two-fifths whole clusters were utilized this year. It's full-bodied and velvety textured yet retains a sense of delicacy and elegance one the long finish. Notes
Patrick Lesec is a small Rhône-focused négociant known for sourcing from established growers rather than maintaining a large estate of his own. The cuvée name refers to the pale galets roulés, the rounded stones associated with Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s best-known terroirs, and the 2017 Southern Rhône vintage was notably warm and low-yielding.
