2013 Domaine Tortochot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Champeaux"

Review Date: 06/2015The 2013 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux has a little more brightness and vivacity on the nose compared to the Lavaux Saint Jacques. The palate has more body than the Lavaux with a gentle grip. This is quite structured and masculine, a little sappiness coming through on the firm, you might say "stout," finish that has fine persistency. This is well-crafted, gutsy Champeaux that will repay 2-3 years in the cellar. (NM)

Notes
Domaine Tortochot is a historic family estate in Gevrey-Chambertin known for organically farmed vineyards and a traditional approach that emphasizes transparency to terroir and long-term aging potential. The premier cru vineyard “Champeaux,” located high on the slope above the village, is prized for its thin limestone soils and cooler exposition, conditions that produce one of the most structured and mineral-driven expressions of Gevrey-Chambertin. Tortochot’s restrained élevage and old-vine fruit highlight the vineyard’s combination of dark-fruited intensity, firm tannic structure, and earthy complexity, hallmarks of this classic Côte de Nuits terroir.
