2011 Quintessa "Illumination" Napa-Sonoma Counties Sauvignon Blanc
93
Int'l Wine Cellar
Review Date: 05/2013Straw-yellow. Pungent aromas of grapefruit and wild herbs lifted by a floral topnote. At once supple and light on its feet, with penetrating grapefruit and dusty stone flavors complicated by hints of tropical fruits, herbs and flowers. Finishes sappy and broad, with a subtle whiff of oak. Winemaker Thomas uses about 3% new acacia oak barrels made by Rousseau, which he says bring a floral character. This is very good.

Notes
From the team behind Quintessa, Illumination is the estate's Sauvignon Blanc, sourced from select Napa and Sonoma County sites rather than the Rutherford estate's Bordeaux red program. The 2011 vintage came from a notably cool California growing season, which suited Sauvignon Blanc's naturally brisk profile.
