Vibrant scents of blackberry pie, Morello cherries, and blackcurrant jelly leap from the glass, followed by nuances of black truffles, tobacco leaf, and dried Provence herbs. The medium to full-bodied plate has a firm, grainy texture and just enough freshness to support the savory layers, finishing minerally. (LPB)

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville has softened a touch with age, but it remains a dark, dense wine with the more extracted style that is typical of this era. Blackberry, bittersweet chocolate, licorice and spice build into the potent finish. This is the most forward of the 2013s at Favia, but it should drink well for another decade or more. (AG)
