The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon offers beautiful Margaux-like floral notes, sweet blue and black fruits, beautifully integrated ripe tannin, adequate acidity and a judicious use of oak. It’s medium to full-bodied, extremely elegant and discreet, but intense at the same time. This is a beautiful example of combining power with complexity in an age-worthy, complete wine. (RP)

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is deep garnet in color. Vibrant scents of blackberry pie, Morello cherries, and blackcurrant jelly leap from the glass, followed by nuances of black truffles, tobacco leaf, and dried Provence herbs. The medium to full-bodied plate has a firm, grainy texture and just enough freshness to support the savory layers, finishing minerally. (LPB)

Vinous

Review Date: 05/2024
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville has softened a touch with age, but it remains a dark, dense wine with the more extracted style that is typical of this era. Blackberry, bittersweet chocolate, licorice and spice build into the potent finish. This is the most forward of the 2013s at Favia, but it should drink well for another decade or more. (AG)

This is hitting its stride, with a dense core of cassis and blackberry compote just starting to show some secondary notes, while apple wood, cedar, tobacco and loam run along the flanks. Delivers a long echo of warm earth through the finish. (JM)

Notes

Favia is the project of winemaker Andy Erickson and viticulturist Annie Favia, with a small-production focus on Napa Valley Cabernet and Rhône varieties. This Oakville Cabernet comes from one of Napa's most recognized Cabernet Sauvignon AVAs, and 2013 was a notably structured drought-season vintage across the valley.
