The 2015 Viognier Suize is a great example of this variety, which is one that doesn’t travel outside of Condrieu in the Northern Rhône incredibly well. Tangerine, white flowers, and some salinity all emerge from this medium-bodied, vibrant white that has plenty of richness as well as juicy acidity. Drink it over the coming 3-4 years.

This is an impressive viognier with great density and brightness. Full body, phenolic tension and undertones of lemon zest and green apples. Lemon curd, too. Long and transparent. Drink now.

The 2015 Suize is ample and creamy, and yet conveys tons of varietal character. Apricot, chamomile and dried flowers are front and center. In the glass, the 2015 is exotic and also quite unctuous, but not at all heavy. This is a very pretty and expressive white from Favia. (AG)

The 2015 Suzie Viognier is composed of 100% Viognier. It is whole-cluster pressed and aged sur lie for 20 months in new and neutral French oak and stainless steel with extended batônnage. It delivers pretty ripe peaches, ripe Bosc pears and apple pie scents with hints of allspice, fresh ginger and baking bread. Medium-bodied with soft acid and bold, spicy fruit in the mouth, it has a pleasant suggestion of oiliness to the texture and savory finish. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered. (LPB)

Notes

Favia Wines was founded in 2003 by viticulturist Annie Favia and winemaker Andy Erickson, who built the project around small-lot Napa Valley and Sierra Foothills fruit handled with minimal intervention. Their home base is a historic 1886 stone-cellar property in Coombsville, where they farm Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in volcanic soils and work closely with select growers across Coombsville, Oakville, Carneros, and Amador County. Production remains limited, generally a few hundred cases per bottling, with native-yeast fermentations, gentle extraction, and a focus on site expression. In 2023 they expanded into an 86-acre Oakville estate, marking the next phase of the winery’s long-term development.
