2008 Arietta "On The White Keys" California White
94
Vinous
Review Date: 10/2016The 2008 On The White Keys is powerful, dense and creamy. At the same time, the wine retains striking depth and freshness. Unctuous and exquisitely layered, the 2008 is one of the most impressive wines in this range. The vibrant Sauvignon aromatics have receded, the edges have softened, and what comes through is an impeccable, ample white wine full of personality. I loved it. (AG)

Notes
Arietta’s On The White Keys sits inside the estate’s long-running Bordeaux-white program, built on hillside Sauvignon Blanc from Sonoma Mountain and old-vine Sémillon from Hyde Vineyard. Founded in 1996 by Fritz and Caren Hatton with John and Maggy Kongsgaard, the winery has always tied its identity to classical music, and this cuvée takes its name from the Arietta theme in Beethoven’s Opus 111. Production follows a clean, mixed-fermentation approach using stainless steel and French oak, with only limited malolactic to preserve acidity. Recent vintages show blends in the 80–87 percent Sauvignon Blanc range, with the balance Sémillon, and case totals typically remain small.
