2020 Aperture "Del Rio Vineyard" Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
100
Jeb Dunnuck
Review Date: 07/2023A deep saturated purple/black, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Del Rio Vineyard is packed with pencil shavings, suede, lifted menthol, peppery pine needles, and a pure lift of cassis. A fantastic wine from this vintage, it offers loads of refinement and purity, with fine tannins, meaty black cherries, plenty of currants, fresh sage, and warming spices on the finish. This is one exceptional wine that is packed with tension and will need some time to unfold, but it’s great now. It’s a potent wine with much pleasure. Drink 2025-2045. (AF)

Notes
Jesse Katz's Aperture project focuses on Bordeaux varieties from Sonoma County, with vineyard-designate bottlings highlighting individual Alexander Valley sites. Del Rio Vineyard is bottled separately in the lineup rather than folded into the broader Alexander Valley Cabernet, giving a more site-specific look at Aperture's Cabernet program. Aperture’s name and labels tie back to Jesse Katz’s father, photographer Andy Katz, whose vineyard and landscape images have been part of the winery’s identity from the beginning. That family connection is a useful thread through a project otherwise known for its Bordeaux-focused Sonoma program.
