The 2014 Grand-Puy-Lacoste is one of my favorite wines from the Left Bank in this vintage. Bright and vivacious blackberry, cedar and graphite scents soar from the glass with real purpose. Wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite tensile with ample depth. It has matured since I last tasted it four years ago. It is very fresh and has a saline finish. Recommended. Tasted at the Bordeaux Index 10-Year-On tasting. N.B. Two bottles tasted blind at Southwold showed oxidation on the first. (Drink between 2024-2050) (NM)

Nice aromatic intensity on the nose, full and forward. High toned, bright and lively but balanced giving quite a fun, energetic expression. It's lean and streamlined, not layered, doesn't venture too far from the centre with an element of tension about it keeping it straight and serious but this has charm and appeal too. A solid effort that's juicy and likeable and not trying too hard. Mineral grip on the finish bringing you back to the terroir. Salty with graphite. Something quite nice about this, still with strength. (GH)

Deep colour. Just beginning to open with the aid of aeration. Dark fruit with a slight vanilla edge. Medium-bodied, clean and fresh. Not quite the fruit weight of top years but firm, ripe tannins and attractive fruit. Won’t disappoint but more for medium-term ageing. (JL) 17/20 points

Notes

Classified as a Fifth Growth in 1855, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste sits on deep gravel soils in Pauillac and has been owned by the Borie family since the late 1970s. The 2014 vintage is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant Left Bank blend from a season that favored later-ripening Cabernet after a dry, sunny September.
