A juicy and expressive red with plum and berry character as well as hints of crushed stones and grilled citrus. Medium- to full-bodied, it has juicy fruit and a flavorful finish. 65% merlot and 35% cabernet franc. 10% whole-bunch fermentation. Very attractive now but even better in two or three years.

Classically styled – classic for the Cabernet-on-sand combo offered by La Tour Figeac I mean – this is aromatically very distinctive, with redcurrant, rosemary, mint and tobacco on the nose, and it feels absolutely typical of the domaine. The palate continues with an elegant sense of restraint, showing a fine core of ripe tannins dressed with tobacco and leather-washed fruits, with a rich spindle of finely polished tannins at its heart, and a peppery energy. Beautifully poised and linear, with a long, coherent and harmonious finish filled with focused tannin and fragrant, sandy, perfumed fruit, this holds great promise, and I am sure it will please all Cabernet Franc fans out there. Much more convincing than I found at the primeurs, when I found the barrel samples quite unconvincing. But this was certainly worth reappraisal. Tasted twice. (CK)

The 2022 La Tour Figeac is elegant, polished and refined. Bright red-toned fruit, spice, blood orange and floral overtones lift from the glass. Fine, nuanced tannins frame it all in an effortless, exquisite Saint-Émilion that has so much to offer. It's all class and finesse here. (AG)

Barrel sample. The wine is rich and structured. Its density gives it weight, mitigated by the wine's acidity. The wine's complexity will develop well. (RV)
