The tannins make their presence felt from the first moments, giving both depth and spice but also a certain constriction. This is not a year for exuberant second wines in St-Julien - there are well-framed black fruits, some fresh St-Julien balance, but a little sombre overall. 60% of overall production. Cabernet Franc 3% completes the blend. A yield of 31hl/ha. (JA)

Composed of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot, the deep garnet-purple in colored 2020 Sarget de Gruaud Larose strolls out of the glass with classic black currant cordial, blackberry pie, and pencil lead scents, giving way to notes of chocolate mint and clove oil. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers soft tannins and understated acidity, finishing with a spicy kick. (LPB)
