A broad, powerful wine 2012 Barolo Arborina offers notable richness and intensity for the year. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco, white pepper and dried herbs blossom in a large-scaled, big Barolo built on volume. The balance of aromatics, fruit and tannin is compelling. Hints of spice, blood orange and white pepper add an attractive element of exoticism as the Arborina continues to flesh out. (AG)

Textbook aromas and flavors of rose, cherry and tar highlight this elegant, linear red. Mineral and spice accents add complexity as this follows through, with a long, detailed aftertaste. (BS)

Intense aromas of rose petal and orange peel. Strawberries too. Full body, chewy tannins and a tight palate. Needs a few years to open but shows style.

Notes

Arborina is one of La Morra’s recognized Barolo crus, and Renato Corino bottles it as a single-site Nebbiolo from his home commune. The estate is part of the Corino family’s long presence in La Morra, with this bottling sitting at the more site-specific end of the lineup.
