2012 Domaine Louis Jadot Corton Grand Cru "Clos du Roi"

Burghound

Review Date: 04/2014

This is restrained to the point of being brooding with its impressively broad-ranging nose of dark berries, violet, spice, menthol and sauvage hints. There is excellent richness to the almost surprisingly forward middle weight flavors that possess a fine sense of volume on the mineral-driven and balanced finish. This is certainly an attractive effort but it can't match either the Grèves or the Pougets for size, weight and overall quality.

Notes

Clos du Roi is one of the historic named climats on the Corton hill, within the only red grand cru of the Côte de Beaune. Louis Jadot’s domaine bottling identifies estate-controlled fruit, and the 2012 Burgundy vintage was marked by a small crop after a difficult growing season.
