Detert's 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is outrageously beautiful. Gravel, smoke, licorice, black plum, cured meats and leather add striking aromatic depth and nuance to this dense yet classy, polished Cabernet Sauvignon. A wine of real character and personality, the 2017 has so much going on. It is without question one of the wines of the year. (AG)

Alluring savory and olive notes lead off, backed by a plush core of dark blackberry and black currant compote flavors. A lovely loamy accent courses underneath it all, showing serious latent grip. (JM)

The Detert family’s Oakville vineyard sits on land historically associated with the original To Kalon holdings, a site the family has farmed since the mid-20th century. While Detert is widely known for Cabernet Franc, this bottling is the estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon from the same Oakville property.
