2006 & 2008 Italian Red Tasting Lot

Bid on this 3-bottle tasting lot; including 2-bottles of 2006 Lamborghini "Campoleone" Umbria (91RP, 90WS) and 1-bottle of 2008 Passopisciaro "Franchetti" Terre Siciliane. Of the 2006 Lamborghini "Campoleone" Umbria, Wine Advocate writes: "Dark cherries, smoke, licorice and earthiness are some of the nuances that emerge from 2006 Campoleone, a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot that spent 12 months in French oak. This is a decidedly dark, brooding red from Lamborghini. As good as it is, I can’t help feeling that the wine is trapped by excessive concentration and new oak. With a lighter touch this could be a truly important, benchmark wine for Umbria. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021. (AG)" (06/2010)

Displays blackberry jam on the nose, with prune and dried flowers. Full and silky, with blueberry flavors, firm tannins and bright acidity. A subtle red, with pretty fruit and structure and a fruity finish. (JS) (11/2009)

Passopisciaro began in two thousand when Andrea Franchetti restored abandoned terraces and cellars on Etna’s north slope, reviving old vineyards around the village of Passopisciaro. He replanted densely on volcanic soils at roughly one thousand meters, focusing on Nerello Mascalese and mapping the mountain’s historic contrade as distinct vineyard sites. His work helped spark Etna’s modern renaissance. The estate farms parcels shaped by different lava flows, with elevations and soil compositions driving its parcel-specific approach. Production centers on expressing these sites through measured fermentations and large neutral vessels, keeping the focus on structure and volcanic character. After Franchetti’s death in twenty-twenty-one, his family continued the project with the same site-driven philosophy.
