McKinney Family Vineyards began when the family moved to Santa Ynez in nineteen ninety-four, settling on a ten-acre ranch that later became the foundation for their estate project. The turning point came in two thousand ten, when Matt McKinney won the Puerto Rico Superior League volleyball championship and secured his father’s agreement to plant the first vines on the property. He established eight rows each of Syrah and Viognier, then expanded production by sourcing fruit from the five Santa Barbara County AVAs. By two thousand twelve he was making wine full time, building a small, hands-on operation rooted in organic and biodynamic methods. Today the winery produces limited-release bottlings shaped by Santa Barbara’s varied microclimates and Matt’s estate farming. This Super Tuscan-style blend is composed of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon.
