Reviewed June 2026The 2023 Chardonnay Mt. Harlan neatly balances cool-toned acids with creamy bass notes. Direct and focused, the 2023 is all about precision. Fresh apricot fruit and toasty spice notes open first while crushed-stone-like minerality races through from start to finish. Floral top notes begin to blossom with aeration, leading to a mouthwatering finish. There’s an admirable sense of place and distinctiveness here. (BN)

Calera founder Josh Jensen established the estate in 1975 after working in Burgundy, choosing a remote site in the Gabilan Mountains for its limestone-rich soils. This 2023 Estate Chardonnay comes from Mt. Harlan, the high-elevation California appellation that surrounds Calera’s vineyards.
