The 2024 Livio Felluga Sauvignon (Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC) is a masterclass in regional restraint and alpine precision, striking a beautiful balance between varietal expressiveness and the stony terroir of northeast Italy. Planted in the classic ponca soils—a unique Eocene matrix of layered marl and sandstone—the fruit benefits from an excellent balance of daytime warmth and cool mountain drafts, locking in tremendous freshness. To construct this 2024 release, the fruit was hand-harvested in early September, gently destemmed, and subjected to a short cold maceration (four to eight hours) to extract aromatic precursors without picking up bitter phenolics. Following a gentle pressing, it was fermented entirely in stainless steel tanks, where it rested on its fine lees for six months to build mid-palate substance before bottling. To maintain a sleek, nervous edge, only a small portion (around 20%) underwent malolactic fermentation.
