2021 Kosta Browne "Treehouse Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (1.5L)
97
James Suckling
Review Date: 11/2023Aromas of bark and mushroom to the ripe strawberry. Orange peel. Full-bodied and layered with lots of structure and form. The polished tannins give so much to this. Chewy yet fine. Made from heritage clones. Needs some time.

Beautifully ripe aromas of Bing cherry, crushed raspberry and violets erupt from the glass on the nose of this Pinot. The palate unfolds in waves with layers of cherry, mixed berry, cinnamon, purple flowers and cocoa powder mingling across a framework of plush tannin and orange peel acidity. Beautiful now, this will age seamlessly for at least a decade. *Editors' Choice* (TC)

Structural muscularity with candied cherries and holiday fruitcakes greet you as you swirl the glass. Dark plums with a silky mouthfeel are accompanied by cinnamon spice. Treehouse has substance and power, perhaps due to the influence of both new French and new Austrian oak, both with an elevage of 18 months. Its exciting to see how this will evolve in 8-10 years. A darker, more opaque magenta/ruby hue, the 2021 Pinot Noir Treehouse Vineyard is slower to open on the nose, revealing more introspective, dark aromas of black cherries, licorice, sappy herbs, and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, it takes on richer structure as well, with a more grounded feel, ripe tannins, broad shoulders, and an earthy finish. It is going to need time to show its potential and may well improve. (AF)
