2020 Sansonina Lugana Fermentazione Spontanea

2020 Sansonina Lugana Fermentazione Spontanea

Notes

The 2020 Sansonina Lugana "Fermentazione Spontanea" is a highly compelling, artisanal departure from the standard, mass-market white profiles found around Lake Garda. Produced by Nadia Zenato under her female-led Sansonina project, this cuvée acts as a purist exploration of 100% Turbiana (Trebbiano di Lugana) sourced from old vines rooted in the compact, white clay and limestone soils of Peschiera del Garda. Rather than utilizing commercial yeast strains to maximize safe, tropical esters, the fruit is entirely spontaneously fermented with its native ambient yeasts. It is then aged on its fine lees in stainless steel tanks, completely avoiding wood contact to allow the raw variety and distinct clayey terroir to speak without filters. In the glass, it shows a bright straw yellow with shimmering golden highlights. The nose is highly characterful, authentic, and layered, completely steering clear of generic sweetness; it opens with a savory array of dried lemon slices, sour berries, and grapefruit zest, beautifully woven into complex undertones of quince, bitter white almonds, and a distinct hint of dried honey.
