1999 & 2014 Mixed Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend Tasting Lot
Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 1999 Viader Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (92WE, 90WS) and 1-bottle of 2014 Merryvale "Profile" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (94JD, 94JG, 94RP, 93WS, 92WE). Of the 2014 Merryvale "Profile" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend, Wine Advocate writes: "Their most expensive wine is the 2014 Profile Proprietary Red Wine, which is a proprietary blend of their best lots, in this case 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. This is a big-time winner, although whether it justifies twice the price of anything else is up to the reader. Rich, inky purple-colored, with sweet crème de cassis, blueberry, forest floor and spice box, the wine is full-bodied and opulent, with a voluptuous texture, sweet tannin, and a long finish of close to 40-45 seconds... “Shows fresh, subtle aromas of cedar, cigar box, ripe plum and black cherry, with touches of mint and herb. Elegant, supple, full-bodied, complex and stylish, ending with a detailed finish. *Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2002* (JL)” (11/2009)

“Sweet chocolate cherry notes on the nose overlays that stoniness in this case. A slightly singed quality. Lovely sweetness at first and then a very dry finish. Quite long. The most typically California wine of the lot. A hint of beef extract. 18/20 points (JR)” (11/2004)

“This blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon and 39% Cabernet Franc reveals attractive cassis and blueberry notes, subtle oak, and spice. This wine is graceful, elegant, and medium-bodied, with sweet ripe tannin, and a moderate finish. (RP)” (06/2002)

“Aromas of dark fruits, violet and licorice show a touch of incipient maderization (my first bottle was more advanced). Fat, sweet and slightly high-toned on the palate; fully mature and showing a chocolatey ripeness but not the verve I'd expect from its Cabernet Franc component. This broad, chewy wine delivers an intriguing saline character and finishes with plush tannins but turned a bit porty as it opened in the glass. (ST)” (03/2019)

“Coming from the best lots of the estate and a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2014 Profile offers terrific notes of cassis, toasted spices, burning embers, and licorice. Possessing full-bodied richness, it's beautifully concentrated and has terrific purity of fruit, as well as good acidity, building tannin and a great finish. 94+” (12/2017)

It's a beautiful effort that's going to take 5-6 years to hit maturity and will keep for another two decades. 94+” (12/2017)

“Aromatically complex, firm, dense and chewy on the palate, with taut dark berry, crushed rock, licorice, anise and cedar notes. Ends long and persistent. Built to age. (JL)” (11/2017)

“This big bold Bordeaux-inspired blend combines 85% Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. It offers a layering of dusty sage and crushed rock around tight-grained tannin that presents as soft and structured on the palate. The integrated fruit is a welcome mix of cassis and red currant.
