Alexander Valley Vineyards is a family-owned estate founded in 1975 by Hank and Linda Wetzel on land purchased in 1962 by Hank's parents Harry and Maggie Wetzel, who bought the historic Cyrus Alexander homestead and began planting vineyards the following year. The estate farms 130 acres across Alexander Valley, with 48,000 square feet of underground barrel aging caves, and Hank Wetzel led the committee that achieved AVA recognition for the Alexander Valley in 1984. Cyrus, AVV's flagship Bordeaux blend, was introduced in 1995 to mark the winery's 20th anniversary and is named in honor of the valley's founder; winemaker Kevin Hall, who joined AVV in 1998, oversees production.
