The 2024 Elio Ottin Petite Arvine is an exceptionally chiseled, structurally brilliant mountain white that perfectly captures the extreme alpine viticulture of the Valle d Aosta. Grown on dramatically steep, terraced slopes between 650 and 800 meters above sea level near Quart, these vines are rooted in coarse, sandy glacial moraine soils. To safeguard the grape's raw, crystalline verticality, Ottin vinifies this entirely in stainless steel, avoiding wood entirely and opting for a short, precise period of lees aging to introduce subtle mid-palate substance without compromising the wine's electric energy. In the glass, it pours a pale, shimmering straw yellow with brilliant greenish reflections. The nose is highly intricate, pure, and intensely mineral, opening with crisp orchard fruits like green apples and white peaches, before quickly unfurling into high-toned aromatic layers of grapefruit zest, apricot, wisteria, and orange blossoms. Underneath this primary fruit lies a highly characteristic, cool alpine stream and wet stone mineral backdrop.
