The 2023 Jermann "Where the Dreams Have No End..." (Venezia Giulia IGT) is a striking, highly sophisticated expression of northern Italian Chardonnay that marks one of the finest releases for this iconic bottling in years. Sourced from 30-year-old vines rooted in the mineral-rich ponca (sandstone and marl) soils of Collio, Silvio Jermann’s legendary cuvée effortlessly balances opulent, rich textures with the defining cool-climate energy of Friuli. To craft this vintage, the wine began its fermentation in stainless steel before being transferred at 6% alcohol to 300-liter French oak barrels. It aged there on its fine lees with regular bâtonnage for 11 months, completely under screw cap to lock in pristine freshness and protect against premature oxidation. In the glass, it shows a bright, rich straw-yellow color with golden highlights. The nose is highly complex, elegant, and layered, offering an expressive aromatic profile of dried lemons, ripe mango, and banana, beautifully woven into decadent notes of melted butter, vanilla pastry, and warm biscuits. On the palate, the wine delivers a full-bodied, generous texture from the lees, yet it remains remarkably energetic and light on its feet. A vibrant, driving spine of vertical acidity slices through the creamy mid-palate, giving the tropical and citrus fruit core incredible shape and form.
