Review Date: 05/2026Enticing flavors of blackberry, black cherry, black currant and violet permeate this supple, harmonious red. Backed by powdery tannins and vibrant acidity, driving the flavors to the long aftertaste. Mineral and spice elements add detail. Best from 2028 through 2042.

Jadot has acquired 2.68 hectares of this vineyard, so the 2023 Fixin 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre is the first iteration of what will become a fixture for the domaine. Offering up aromas of cherries, raspberries and petals, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and suave, with refined tannins and a chalky, mineral finish.
Winemaker Frédéric Barnier and his team have once again delivered a strong portfolio chez Jadot. Barnier stressed the importance of sorting and of vigilance during élevage, in particular where acid rot made an appearance, and he didn't hesitate to perform a saignée for cuvées where yields where high. As I've written before, in the cellar, foudres and 500-liter barrels now complement classic 228-liter pièces, a further evolution adapting to warmer, riper vintages. What's more, barrels are now used four rather than three times, meaning the percentage of new oak overall has fallen. A cold room also helps chill down any fruit that's too warm when it enters the winery, something especially important during the warm 2023 harvest. This vintage also marks the third vintage of organic conversion for the Domaine Louis Jadot and the Domaine Gagey.(WK)

The 2023 Fixin Clos du Chapitre 1er Cru is a new release, a 2.78-hectare acquisition of 55-year-old vines from the Dufouleur family (who kept a couple themselves so it is no longer a monopole). One hectare is being regrafted by Jadot with Chardonnay. It has a well-defined bouquet of perfumed red fruit, and a touch of blood orange seeps through with aeration. The palate is fresh and vibrant with lively red fruit, a twist of orange rind and a nicely composed finish that exudes joie-de-vivre. The 2023 is a welcome addition to Jadot's red portfolio.(NM)

2.78ha have been purchased from Dufouleur, with 1ha pulled out to plant in white in the upper part. Good bright ruby. Rich and supple on the palate, much less tannin than many a Fixin, quality pinot plant, nothing rustic, with considerable depth behind. A furry moment at the finish. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Oct 2024.
