Though Guillaume Michel noted that he only has thirty percent of a normal crop in his parcel of Vaudésir in 2024, this is his highest-yielding grand cru in this vintage. Though there is so little of it to go around, it is a beautiful wine, offering up a beautiful young bouquet of pink grapefruit, lemon, tart pear, chalky minerality, anise and a topnote of limepeel. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and youthfully structured, with a rock solid core of fruit, superb mineral drive and grip, racy acids and impressive balance and precision on the long and nascently complex finish. All this superb wine needs is some time in the cellar to properly blossom. 2031-2075+.

One feels the suffering of the grapes,' says Guillaume Michel of Domaine Louis Michel & Fils. His Vaudésir, however, is a powerful wine with intense aromas of green apple and lime, underpinned by a salty minerality. The grapes are from 1ha in the cooler 'envers' side of the Vaudésir valley. Despite the complicated conditions he was able to coax a yield of 20 hl/ha from the vineyard, and the results are delicious.(CC)

A gentle Vaudésir with immediate appeal thanks to its spice-studded citrus, anise and cool, Nashi pears. The pithy finish flecked with minearlity goes on and on. Planted across the decades between the 50s, 60s and 70s, the average vine age is approximately 65 years.

Very pale in colour, lightly perfumed. One of their plots was badly hit by the 1st May hail, but another came through not too badly. Begins to take on a more classical style, on the nose, lean fresh apples on the palate, the finish kicks on notably further than the 1ers Crus. Drink from 2030-2034. Tasted Jun 2025.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "From the north-facing hillside which helps conserve the freshness in warm vintages, but needs later harvesting… Wider, very floral more exotic flowers rather than the fruit. Extra wide, present width and density – but melting with super energy. Large scale in the finish too – another domaine, another clear step-change with the level of appellation. Super wine…"(01/2026)
