Guillaume noted that his parcel in Vaillons had been “touched by hail in May, but not destroyed”, so he has a small cuvée of this lovely premier cru in 2024. The wine’s aromatic constellation is bright and complex, delivering notes of apple, fresh lime, a beautiful base of chalky minerality, citrus blossoms, lemongrass and blossoming notes of paraffin in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep. full-bodied and more reserved in personality than the Butteaux, with the same excellent core of pure fruit, lovely soil signature, a fine girdle of acidity and a long, complex and very nicely balanced finish. As this was also bottled in November, it is hard to say in mid-January if it is a bit more reserved in personality solely because of the recent bottling or if it will just want a year or two longer in the cellar before drinking than a few of these other premier crus. In any event, it is a lovely bottle. 2027-2060.

Peach peels, blood orange, straw and fresh baguette create an enticing and rather savory nose. The palate is broad with nice flesh and lightly tugging tannins through the considerably long finish. Classy and distinguished.

Offers bright, forward aromas of lime and kiwi, accented by soft white flowers and cream. Ethereal on the palate with a light body, fresh acidity and admirable balance, although it does not deliver the concentration of the old-vine Butteaux bottling. The grapes are from 1.2ha spread across several parcels in Vaillons, as well as lieux-dits Roncières and Mélinots, which fall under the same umbrella and give a wine that is soft, supple and accessible.(CC)

Note: from vines between 35 and 50 years of age evenly divided between parcels of Mélinots, Châtains and Roncières, and by exception in 2024, some Séchet. A notably more floral-suffused nose speaks of white pepper, quinine, shellfish and a citrus whiff. There is both solid density and a beguiling texture to the medium-bodied flavors that exude an evident bead of minerality on the bone-dry and impressively persistent finale. This could also use better depth but the underlying material is such that it should simply be a matter of exercising some patience.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "A pretty core of pure yellow citrus. Ooh – so wide, mineral and juicy – extra salinity. The finish is wide and slowly shimmers as it fades. Such a pretty wine – it’s excellent – right at the end, a floral touch too."(01/2026)
