The 2024 Cantine Benvenuto Zibibbo (Calabria IGT) is a strikingly fresh, highly aromatic dry white that represents a brilliant triumph for regional biodiversity. While wine drinkers typically associate Zibibbo (Muscat of Alexandria) with the sun-baked, passito sweet styles of Pantelleria and Sicily, producer Giovanni Celeste Benvenuto has dedicated his life to rescuing and elevating the rare, indigenous clone known as Zibibbo di Pizzo. Rooted in the dramatic, coastal clay-limestone slopes of Francavilla Angitola within the Vibo Valentia province, these certified organic vineyards look out over the Tyrrhenian Sea, catching massive solar light combined with cool maritime drafts. To preserve the wine's raw verticality and shocking freshness, the hand-harvested fruit underwent a careful 24-hour cold maceration on the skins to extract aromatic precursors before fermenting natively with ambient yeasts. It was raised exclusively on its fine lees for eight months in controlled stainless steel tanks, completely avoiding wood contact or malolactic fermentation to safeguard the hyper-focussed primary energy of the grape.
