An agreeably fresh nose reflects pretty notes of red pinot fruit, plum and newly turned earth. There is a lovely sense of vibrancy to the detailed flavors that terminate in a dusty, youthfully austere and bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. Made up out of the young vines from Gevrey for half and some fruit declassified from Morey 1er Cru after blockage of maturity. Ripe mid purple, perfumed ripe fruit, attractive enough. Peppery notes to finish, plus the dry tannins of blocked maturity. Tasted Nov 2021.

The 2020 Bourgogne Rouge Cuvée du Pinson offers up aromas of cherries, raspberries and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, it's one of the headier, more overtly ripe wines in the range. As ever, it includes a considerable proportion of young-vine fruit from grander appellations. The 2020 vintage at Domaine Ponsot marks the first time in history that this estate has begun the harvest in the month of August. Coming in at between 13.5% and 14% alcohol, these are powerful, concentrated Burgundies with deep, saturated hues, vibrant acids and serious musculature, and they will demand some bottle age. The 2019s, revisited from bottle, are also rich, lavish wines, bursting with fruit that almost conceals serious structure that will also reward patience.(WK)
