Bottled in June 2025, Bonneau du Martray's 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of crisp orchard fruits, clear honey, buttery pastry and toasted nuts. Full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's dense and layered, with a satiny attack that segues into a multidimensional mid-palate animated by tangy acids, concluding with a chalky finish. It's a resounding success. This 11-hectare domaine, under American ownership since 2017, boasts fully 9.5 hectares of Corton-Charlemagne, the largest holding in this grand cru. Biodynamically certified since 2013, the estate is now harvested and vinified block by block, giving the technical team the rare opportunity to produce a "cru" that is also a blend—with all the enviable advantages that entails. Proper climate control has already improved conditions for maturation in the cellars, and the domaine's new winery, long in the planning, will only increase the possibilities open to the team. In 2023, a small parcel of Bâtard-Montrachet joined the estate's range, reviewed here. Readers looking for more information about Bonneau du Martray's past, present and future are directed to the June 2023 Week 3 issue (published on June 22) of The Wine Advocate.(WK)

The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is rich and creamy in the glass, with striking textural richness and notable volume. Readers will find a wine of total sophistication and class. The 2023 balances the natural intensity of the year with a mid-weight structure that is the result of a generous crop. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, mint and white pepper lift from the glass, adding lovely freshness and verve through. Light tropical and floral inflections grace the subtle, textured finish. What a delight. The 2023 will drink well right out of the gate, although readers who can wait will enjoy a more complex, nuanced wine down the road. Élevage was 12 months in French oak followed by six months in tank, cask and sandstone.(AG)
