Shizuoka "Prologue K & W" Japanese Single Malt Whisky (2x200ml)
Notes
The Shizuoka Distillery has become one of the most watched new names in Japanese whisky, and this tiny Prologue K&W set explains exactly why. Founded in 2016 by Taiko Nakamura of Gaia Flow, Shizuoka sits in the mountains along the Nakakouchi River and was built around one of the great modern whisky stories: the rescue of equipment from the legendary closed Karuizawa Distillery. The Prologue K is built around that historic Karuizawa wash still, while Prologue W showcases Shizuoka’s extraordinary direct wood-fired Forsyths still, fueled with timber from the surrounding forests. This gift set includes one 200ml bottle of each, both 3 years old, matured in first-fill bourbon barrels and bottled at a natural 55.5% ABV without chill filtration or added color. W is made from Japanese malted barley, peated and unpeated Scottish malt, and German beer malt, giving it a deeper, more textured, faintly smoky personality. K is brighter, fresher, and more elegant, a glimpse of the fruit-driven side of Shizuoka through one of Japanese whisky’s most mythic pieces of equipment. Side by side, they offer a rare look at how still shape, heating method, barley source, and maturation site can completely redefine the same young distillery. These first releases were never designed for casual volume. They are small, collectible, technically fascinating snapshots from a distillery that may help define the next great chapter of Japanese single malt.
