Wine Advocate
Reviewed February 2026Originating from white marl soils, the 2023 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard reveals itself aromatically with a bouquet of pear and white flowers, framed by a reductive note attributable to Lamy’s practice of retaining more lees in hot vintages, which accentuates the wine’s reductive character. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, bright and textural, with a crisp core of fruit, racy acidity and a long, chalky finish.
Harvested between September 2 and 12, Olivier Lamy has produced another compelling range of wines in 2023, despite below-average rainfall, a hot growing season and localized hail in July. This year, he pursued greater extraction to endow the wines with a more pronounced dry extract, lending them a firmer structure and a heightened sensation of freshness. After all, he is a vigneron who believes that taste matters more than mere analysis.(KK)

Burghound
Smoky aromas of white orchard fruit, just grated lemon, mineral reduction and floral top notes are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is slightly better volume to the almost painfully intense medium-bodied flavors that also brim with minerality on the bone-dry and markedly austere finale that delivers outstanding length. This is terrific though again, it's so compact that a minimum of 5 years in a cool cellar is advised and 10 would be better.*Burghound Outstanding!*

Grown on the marl, which makes for more austere vines here. Pale lemon in colour, with a very slight lime tint. Much less bouquet is in evidence compared to Les Frionnes. Instead, there is a clean fresh fruit through the middle of the palate, ripe apples, with a little more density at the back. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted Nov 2025.

Vinous
The 2023 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru comes from vines on white marl soil, planted between 1985 and 2001. It has a harmonious bouquet with touches of shucked oyster shell infusing the green apple scents and a touch of dewy meadow. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, though I am just missing a little mineralité and terroir expression on the finish due to the growing season. Fine but I preferred the 2022 a year earlier.(NM)
