Burghound
Reviewed June 2026Note: from a .16 ha holding. An attractively floral-suffused nose freely reveals additional notes of pear, spice and a whiff of rosemary oil character. There is slightly more volume, if not power or minerality, or the delicious middle weight flavors that exhibit excellent persistence on complex finale where the only reproach is a touch of warmth.*Burghound Outstanding!*

Wine Advocate
Originating from soils where a mere 20 centimeters of red clay overlies the limestone and from vines planted in 1988, the 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles rises from the glass with aromas of yellow apple, orange oil and beeswax. Medium- to full-bodied, it is broad and textural on the palate, with succulent acidity, exhibiting slightly less cut than Lamy’s Saint-Aubin bottlings.
Harvested between September 2 and 12, Olivier Lamy has produced another compelling range of wines in 2023, despite below-average rainfall, a hot growing season and localized hail in July. This year, he pursued greater extraction to endow the wines with a more pronounced dry extract, lending them a firmer structure and a heightened sensation of freshness. After all, he is a vigneron who believes that taste matters more than mere analysis.(KK)

Vinous
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru comes from deep red soils over a strata of broken limestone. This is supremely well focused on the nose, that limestone influence tincturing the malic fruit with hints of petrichor. The palate is very composed and well balanced, demonstrating the finesse of Lamy's top Saint-Aubin's but with a little more roundness and depth on the finish. Irresistible.(NM)

From vines planted in 1988 on red soil with iron oxide and big rock fragments below the surface. Pale lemon and lime. The bouquet is a little anonymous at the moment. Concentrated ripe green apples at the finish, which progresses nicely. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Nov 2025.
