1995 Produttori del Barbaresco "Rabaja" Barbaresco Riserva

Review Date: 05/2011Our vertical tasting was the first time I had the good fortune to cross paths with the 1995 Rabajà, and while it is not a classic example of this fine cru, it is a lovely wine cut in a completely black fruity and middleweight style that is long on personality. The nose is quite deep-pitched in its blend of cassis, beef stock, game, sous bois, a touch of tar and a distinct topnote of leather. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish and complex, with blossoming secondary layers of flavors, a good core of fruit, moderate tannins and very good length and grip on the complex finish. In terms of Rabajà, this is more of a middleweight, and while it is not quite classic in terms of its aromatic and flavor profiles, it is nonetheless a very, very good bottle of wine that is just entering its plateau of maturity.
