Maria’s Field Blend at Saitone Estate comes from a historic mixed-variety block planted to an old California combination of whites and light-skinned grapes, including Chasselas Doré, Muscadelle, French Colombard, Muscat and Criolla Mediana, with Alicante Bouschet, Petit Bouschet, Zinfandel and Carignane also present but pressed gently so the finished wine remains white. Williams Selyem harvests and ferments the block together, keeping the field-blend character intact. The site itself dates to the late nineteenth century and is one of the oldest surviving vineyards in the Russian River Valley, known for sandy soils that preserve these heirloom varieties. The cuvée reflects the traditional practice of co-planted whites that were once common in Sonoma.
