2018 Sequoia Grove "Rutherford Bench Reserve" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

Review Date: 12/2020Blueberry jam, spiced plum, nutmeg and licorice on the nose. Savory black olive, too. It’s full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins. Lots of tangy berry jam and spices.

Notes
Sequoia Grove traces its modern start to 1978, when James and Barbara Allen purchased part of the old Rancho Caymus land grant in Rutherford and opened their winery the following year in a century-old barn beneath the estate’s sequoias. The property includes a 24-acre estate vineyard and the 50-acre Tonella Ranch, both on Rutherford’s gravelly loam, long tied to structured Cabernet. The winery became known for balanced, site-driven Bordeaux varieties and later expanded under the Kopf family, who assumed full ownership in 2002. Today production centers on Cabernet Sauvignon supported by sustainable farming and ongoing investment in vineyards and facilities, all aimed at expressing Rutherford fruit with clarity and restraint.
