2012 Sarget de Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien
Notes
Sarget de Gruaud-Larose has been the second wine of Gruaud-Larose since 1979, pulled from the same Saint-Julien vineyards that the estate has farmed since the eighteenth century. The property’s deep gravel soils and long history with the Sarget and Cordier families shape the modern identity, now guided by the Merlaut family with organic and biodynamic farming in place. The second wine comes from lots that do not make the cut for the grand vin but still go through the same hands-on approach in the vineyard and cellar. Grapes are harvested by hand, sorted by parcel and fermented in concrete and large wooden vats before aging that mirrors the estate’s broader style.
