Review Date: 04/2022The 2019 Moulin St Georges has turned out brilliantly, offering up aromas of cherries, wild berries, violets, sweet spices and raw cocoa, followed by a medium to full-bodied, bright and vibrant palate, with a concentrated core of fruit, tangy acids and beautifully refined tannins. From a seven-hectare, west-facing vineyard opposite Ausone that always ripens some 10 days later than Ausone itself, Moulin St Georges has come into its own in this warm, dry vintage, delivering a wine of notable energy and finesse. Pretty nose of wild blueberries, cherries, iron, cloves, pine cones, dried flowers and chocolate. It’s medium-bodied with a vibrant, spicy and fragrant palate, framed by sleek, silky tannins.

This small vineyard of old vines is dominated by Merlot. Its ripe black fruits and dark texture comes from concentration and the wood aging. The wine has a fine juicy character to balance the structure. (RV)

The 2019 Moulin Saint-Georges is another wine in this range from the Vauthier family that shows decidedly mid-weight structure. Bright acids are especially present today. Moulin Saint-Georges is an understated wine that isn't especially obvious today, but that appears to have quite a bit of potential once it fully comes together. I especially like the vibrancy here.
