While the preceding Meursaults all offer a measure of exuberance – albeit in a classically austere style – the 2010 Meursault Genevrières is a much more introverted wine that draws the taster in with its myriad shades of dimension. Deceptively medium in body, the 2010 is all about intensity, cut and inward energy, with the classic reductive flavor profile that is typical of this great site, and breathtaking harmony. The 2010 refreshes the palate with every taste as it continues to grow in the glass. Over the last few years, the 2010 has blossomed into a spectacular Meursault. This is the best showing yet from the Genevrières. (AG) 96+

Given the inherent elegance of the 2010 vintage, it is not surprising that Meursault’s most refined terroir would excel in this vintage, and this is exactly what has happened with the Lafon Genevrières. The simply gorgeous and perfumed nose offers up a beautiful blend of apple, pear, fresh coconut, chalky minerality, almonds, apple blossoms and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very pure on the attack, with great complexity, fine mid-palate depth and great cut and backend energy on the focused and dancing finish. A beautiful, beautiful bottle of young Genevrières.

A reserved nose of very fresh notes of mineral reduction, spice, pear and citrus slides gracefully into vibrant and gorgeously well-detailed, refined and ultra-pure middle weight flavors that brim with a fine minerality. There is a saline character to the extraordinarily long, intense, impeccably well-balanced and linear finish that displays marvelous length. This is even drier than it usually is and I very much like the sense of energy here. Note that this is perhaps the most backward wine among these 2010s and will need a few years before it becomes sufficiently civilized to come out and play nicely.

The 2010 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrieres is very precise on the nose with scents of quince, brioche and citrus lemon that is beautifully defined. The palate is supremely well-defined with razor-sharp acidity. It seems more citrus driven than the 2011 with a lovely effervescent finish that lingers long in the mouth. Excellent. (NM)
