The 2020 Pommard “Vieilles Vignes” from Monsieur Chaix is even a bit more structured than the Volnay (no surprise there), but shows the same beautiful depth of black fruit in its aromatic constellation of dark berries, cassis, woodsmoke, venison, bitter chocolate, dark soil tones and a hint of oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and rock solid at the core, with ripe, firm tannins, good focus and grip and a long, very youthful and promising finish. This will demand at least a decade to soften up on the palate, but it has fine potential. (Drink between 2030-2060) (89+)
