Review Date: 01/2020Harvested all before the fires, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label is a juicy, rock star of a Napa blend that has lots of chocolate fruit, tobacco, and spice to go with a full-bodied, juicy, opulent style on the palate. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years. The blend is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, from a mix of the Lewelling, Criscione, and Beckstoffer Dr. Crane vineyards, aged 20 months in 65% new French oak.

Coming from the Lewelling, Criscione and Beckstoffer Dr. Crane vineyards, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label is a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot aged 20 months in 65% new French oak. It has a deep garnet-purple color and delivers exuberant black cherries, ripe plums and crème de cassis notes with nuances of fallen leaves, pencil lead and charcoal plus a touch of dried herbs. Full-bodied, firm and grainy, it packs in the black fruit and earthy layers, finishing with a mineral kick. (LPB)

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label is a very pretty and expressive appellation-level wine. Soft and fruity with fine balance, the 2017 offers tons of sheer appeal, especially within its peer group. Black cherry, mocha, licorice, spice and menthol are nicely pushed forward in this tasty, mid-weight Cabernet. The tannins are a bit coarse, but the overall impression remains pleasant. (AG)
