From the estate, Seven Hills Vineyard in Walla Walla comes to a 100% Syrah from some of Washington's oldest vines. Dusty violets and lilac notes alight from the glass but melt together with briny black olive and notes of smoky ember. The palate is supple for this wine's weight. Dark berries, white pepper, and spiced black plum are given over to savoury notes of smoked sea salt, smoky meat, and iron. The finish is well-structured and mineral-driven. (CP)

The 2021 Syrah Estate Seven Hills Vineyard is slightly more expensive, and it brings a touch more intensity in its red, blue, and black fruits as well as peppery herbs, lavender, and violet-like aromas and flavors. It's textured, medium to full-bodied, has velvety tannins, and a great finish. It reminds me slightly of a great Crozes-Hermitage and will keep for 7-8 years with ease.

The 2021 Syrah Estate Seven Hills Vineyard entices with a nuanced blend of wild herbs, spiced citrus rinds, olives and earth tones. It’s soft textured and pliant, with a mineral tinge up front. Zesty acidity further enlivens its tart wild berry fruits. This is distinctly savory and intense. A primary concentration lingers along with edgy tannins as violet inner florals and tart black raspberry notes fade. There is simply so much going on here, yet the 2021 is still so young. The future appears to be very bright. (EG)
